Built by architect Pierre Gauthier from 1846 to 1854, Lariboisière obeyed all contemporary imperatives of health and convenience. Six pavilions, three for men, three for women, are arranged symmetrically along a rectangular courtyard. The architecture of the Lariboisière Hospital was an international success for its hygienist qualities. This pavilion plan was taken up throughout Europe and as far as the USA.The chapel houses the funerary monument of Countess Elisa de Lariboisière (1794-1851). In her will, she left most of her fortune for the foundation of the hospital that bears her name.
E6The instrument was built by the organ builder Suret in 1855, as confirmed by a label stuck on the back of the soundboard: “Suret, 117 Faubourg Saint-Martin, builder of large church organs and choir accompaniment organs, Paris, 1855”.Around 1950, Gutschenritter added an electric blower and changed the stop list.In 1973, the builder Swiderski, helped by a certain Camus (organist at St Vincent de Paul), made major changes to the tonal design. They also considered extending the pedal range to 30 notes, but that didn’t happen. The instrument has a small neo-classical oak case with three curved towers. It features a diatonic slider chest with double pallets. The Bourdon has two dedicated chests placed perpendicular to the organ. It has a tracker action with balanced trackers.
